Burjeel Medical City achieves UAE’s first uniportal robotic lung surgery

Abu Dhabi: Burjeel Medical City has already performed the first uniportal robotic lung surgery in the UAE, which is a significant step in the direction of minimally invasive surgery in cancer treatment. The process is a major milestone in healthcare in the country and is an indicator of increased use of state-of-the-art robotic surgical systems.

The procedure, which was termed a uniportal robotic lobectomy, was performed on a 37-year-old patient who was diagnosed with early-stage lung cancer. Surgeons used the da Vinci Xi robotic system to assist them in making the most precise cut and removing the impacted part of the lung by making only one small incision. Dr Taj Mohammed Fiyaz Chowdhry, a consultant thoracic surgeon, headed the operation, and it was completed without complications.

Breakthrough in Minimally Invasive Lung Cancer Treatment

According to medical professionals, uniportal robotic surgery enables doctors to use a single incision rather than multiple entry points, which causes less trauma to the body. The method is normally less painful than having an operation, with less scarring and quicker recovery than conventional open surgery or multi-port surgery.

The patient was able to walk out the door in less than two days after the surgery, which is far less than the patient would have had normal recovery time after having a traditional lung surgery. It is reported that the patient was able to resume normal daily functions, including work,k in a few weeks, which was a sign of the effectiveness of this advanced surgical technique.

Medical experts say that such inventions are especially useful in patients with early-stage lung cancer who are good candidates for the minimally invasive operations. This surgery was successful, which confirms the establishment of Abu Dhabi as a choice for advanced medical care within the region.

Representatives of the Burjeel Medical City stressed the fact that the use of innovative technologies is still on the agenda to achieve better patient outcomes and increase the number of treatment methods. Such an accomplishment is likely to pave the way to more sophisticated robotic-assisted interventions in the healthcare system of the UAE.
