UAE Summer Heat Alert: Best Times to Go Outside Safely
The UAE has been experiencing the heat of summer all over the land. The UAE Summer Heat Alert follows the weather agency’s call to the public to avoid direct sunlight during the heat of the day, with some areas in the UAE expected to see temperatures reach above 45°C in the next few weeks. The police have also urged people to be extra vigilant against heat exhaustion and dehydration in the hot summer season.
Health experts say the best times to venture outdoors in the UAE during summer are before 10 am and after 5 pm when temperatures are relatively cooler. High humidity and strong sunlight make midday time (between 12 pm and 4 pm) the hottest time of the day, making it challenging for residents and tourists.
Many have made some initial behavioural changes by walking, exercising, or doing errands during the early morning or evening to avoid the crowds. During periods of high temperatures in the day, there is also predicted to be an increase in visitors to shopping centres, indoor attractions, and public transport stations to find some relief.
Health Experts Advise Extra Precautions During Extreme Heat
Doctors nationwide are continuing their UAE Summer Heat Alert and advising people to drink water regularly, even if they don’t feel thirsty. During the summer months and in hot climates, dehydration can happen rapidly, particularly with outdoor workers, children, and seniors living in the community. During the hot summer months, the top tips for safety include wearing light-colored clothing, wearing sunscreen and spending less time outdoors.
The authorities have also warned drivers not to leave children or pets in parked vehicles, even for brief periods. The car’s temperature can quickly reach the high 30s, low 40s, or higher on sunny days. The residents are also advised to stay updated on the weather forecasts posted regularly and plan for outdoor activities prudently in the upcoming months, given the hot weather in the UAE.
