Dubai Completes First Phase of Stormwater Sewerage System in Al Quoz

The first stage of a significant stormwater and sewerage system in Al Quoz has been accomplished by Dubai Municipality, and it is one of the milestones in the strategy of developing infrastructure in the emirate.

The first stage of the project was already done in the previous year and is a part of a larger project worth AED 500 million to modernize the drainage system in the Al Quoz Creative Zone. Its industrial growth encompasses some of the busiest industries in Dubai including the Al Quoz Industrial Areas 1–4, which provides a high percentage of commercial and manufacturing processes in the city.

The project, occupying a size of about 1,600 hectares and spanning over 1,500 plots, will make a huge difference in terms of the drainage system in the areas, which are critical in terms of industrial and logistics activities. The first stage, which involved the installation of approximately 15 kilometres of sewerage pipes and 14 kilometres of stormwater drainage pipes, was confirmed by the authorities.

Flood Prevention, Tasreef Programme, and Sustainable Infrastructure Growth in Dubai

The improved infrastructure will help to minimise the risk of flooding, enhance the efficiency of water flow, and maintain business operations, particularly when it rains heavily. This is in reaction to the recent extreme weather patterns, which revealed the weakness of older drainage systems.

According to the officials, the project is in line with the wider long-term infrastructure project of Dubai, the so-called Tasreef programme, which is a massive scheme to increase stormwater drainage capacity throughout the emirate. The programme will increase resilience to climate-related issues and enable urban growth in the future.

As this phase is completed, Dubai is further becoming a city that is sustainable in terms of development, being able to support the needs of the fast growth and the evolving environmental conditions of its infrastructure.
