Abu Dhabi Launches Control Room to Monitor Autonomous Vehicles
Abu Dhabi is now focused on Autonomous Vehicles, with the emirate setting up a dedicated central control room to monitor and control driverless transport services. The facility was opened by the Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility), a branch of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, with the support of the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council.
The new control room will enable the real-time monitoring of the operations of the autonomous vehicles throughout Abu Dhabi. It incorporates state-of-the-art digital systems to monitor vehicles’ location, route and operating status and to facilitate quick decision-making. The platform is expected to help the firm streamline its operations and adhere to accepted transport requirements, according to officials.
The facility also allows for quick action on operational problems or emergencies, Abu Dhabi Mobility said. The centralized system reinforces the monitoring of autonomous transport services, reflecting the emirate’s ongoing efforts to build up its smart mobility network and driverless vehicle initiatives.
Autonomous Vehicles to Benefit from Advanced Monitoring System
The control room is furnished with Autonomous Vehicles Integrated Testing, Operations and Management System (AViTOMS), a digital platform that will allow all phases of testing and commercial operations. It offers real-time dashboards, route tracking, permit management, and incident monitoring to ensure high levels of safety and future-proof autonomous transport.
It is part of Abu Dhabi’s smart mobility initiative. The emirate is a pioneer in the autonomous transportation technology sector, and in 2025 plans to become the first city in the Middle East and North Africa to start commercial use of fully driverless Level 4 vehicles. The new control room will continue to enhance the public’s trust and facilitate the safe development of innovative mobility offerings in the capital.
