As the construction of station access roads is ongoing in Sharjah, the city’s temporary traffic diversion between University City and Ard Al Maahid is expected to continue during the project works. The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) confirmed that the diversion will start on Saturday, 4 July 2026 and continue through to Sunday, 23 August 2026. 

The road changes are part of an ongoing project to improve the connectivity and traffic flow around the future railway station, known as the Etihad Rail Station Access Roads Project, said SRTA. Drivers traveling on the corridor during the construction phase should be aware of altered traffic flow and potential delays, particularly during peak travel times. 

Authorities have allowed alternate routes to help ease traffic congestion during the renovation. Drivers are advised to observe the temporary road signs and obey traffic instructions and give additional time to travel. These measures are being put in place to ensure the safety of road users and construction crews and to allow vehicles to safely navigate the area,” SRTA said. 

Etihad Rail project: Diversion Routes and Travel Advice

The Etihad Rail is part of the UAE extensive railway infrastructure initiative, and roads leading to the stations are being constructed for future railway operations. The ongoing diversion is for the section between University City and Ard Al Maahid and is being carried out while work is underway to construct new access roads to the new station. 

SRTA has issued the following traffic control guidance to motorists: Plan where possible, and understand that there may be some temporary traffic control measures. Motorists use alternative routes wherever possible—Use alternate routes when possible. There could be a few delays during rush times, but it is expected that the diversion will keep traffic flowing safely until construction is finished. Normal traffic will resume along the road after August 23, 2026, if the project is on schedule.
