Dubai Harbour Bridge to Reduce Travel Time from 12 Minutes to Just 3

Dubai Harbour Bridge

Dubai Harbour Bridge is currently 90% finished, according to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), and will become one of the key transport infrastructure projects in Dubai. The new bridge will, when in use, cut the time for traffic to cross between Sheikh Zayed Road and Dubai Harbour from 12 minutes to three minutes.

The 1,500m long bridge is being built in collaboration with RTA and Shamal Holding. It will offer a direct link between Sheikh Zayed Road and Dubai Harbour, allowing motorists to bypass traffic jams and enjoy quicker access to one of Dubai’s foremost waterfront destinations. RTA said the project will be opened gradually starting from June, and it will be completed in July 2026.

The bridge runs from Interchange 5 on Sheikh Zayed Road, near the American University in Dubai, to Dubai Harbour Street, officials say. The facility accommodates up to 6,000 vehicles an hour, in both directions, thus enhancing traffic flow in the region.

Improved Connectivity for Residents and Visitors

Overall, the Dubai Harbour Bridge project is expected to improve the mobility of people and vehicles in and around Dubai Harbour, making the area more accessible and convenient for both residents and visitors. Along with the bridge itself, four important intersections along the corridor are being upgraded to improve the flow of traffic and connectivity along the corridor.

RTA Director General Mattar Al Tayer said it was a premier case of public-private partnerships to help Dubai’s urban development in the long-term. The bridge will be used to connect the two areas and facilitate the movement of people and vehicles across the river, enhancing the overall mobility and accessibility of the region. The bridge will serve as a viable transportation link between the two and play a crucial role in supporting the expansion of tourism and residential development in the region.

More than 1400 engineers and workers in 12 teams have worked over 4.2 million work hours on construction. Over 45,000 cubic metres of concrete and 8,273 tonnes of steel have also been consumed in the project. The bridge will significantly reduce congestion and enable future growth in the area of Dubai Harbour when complete, it has been said.
